If your employer asks you to get vaccinated for Covid-19, you may wonder if vaccination mandates at businesses are allowed.
This article will discuss the current updates on whether employers can mandate vaccination for staff and links to relevant resources.
Who is Being Required to be Vaccinated by Their Employer?
President Joe Biden wants to require all employers with one hundred or more employees to mandate that their employees get vaccinated or be tested for Covid on an ongoing weekly basis. Overseen by the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), his requirement is set to impact 80 million people in the United States.
President Biden will also be requiring millions of contractors (and their employees) who currently work in the executive branch of the federal government to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. This will affect over 2.5 million people who work in the Department of Defense, the Department of Veteran Affairs, the Indian Health Service, and the National Institute of Health.
Another group targeted by President Biden’s Covid vaccine mandates is over 17 million healthcare workers employed by Medicare and Medicaid participating hospitals and other healthcare settings.
When Will the Mandates go Into Effect?
OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) is currently being stayed in court, but if it goes through, the deadline to have all employees vaccinated will be on Monday, January 4, 2021.
Is There any Alternative to Employee Vaccination?
Yes, there is an alternative to having all of your employees vaccinated for Covid-19. You can instead require testing on at least a weekly basis for your employees who are not vaccinated.
