How Long to Wait Before Getting a PCR Test After You’re In Contact With a COVID Positive Person
If you have been exposed to or come into contact with a COVID-positive person, you may want to consider getting tested. PCR tests exhibit a higher rate of accuracy and reliability than antigen tests. Results can return as soon as a few hours after the test, or they may take a few days to return.
How Long Should You Wait to Get a PCR Test?
With the Delta variant becoming the prominent strain of COVID-19, many people are worried. If you have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you should consider getting tested.
If You are Vaccinated
The CDC defines fully vaccinated people as those who are two weeks after their second dose of the vaccine in a 2-dose series, such as Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
If you are fully vaccinated by the CDC’s standards and have been exposed to someone who is COVID positive, you should get tested 3-5 days after you were exposed.
If You are Not Vaccinated
If you do not meet the CDC’s definition of fully vaccinated or have chosen not to get the vaccine, but you have been exposed, you should be tested immediately. Then, if the test results come back negative, you should be tested again in 3-5 days following the last time you were exposed to the COVID positive individual.
Whether you are vaccinated or not, you may want to consider being tested if you have been exposed to the virus. Drip Hydration offers convenient at-home testing, where nurses will come to you in your home for testing. Testing is available in many major cities across the country, and testing options vary.
