Will Companies Be Able to Mandate Vaccination From Their Employees?
Going back to normal might seem to be the end-goal of every individual who has been affected by Covid. Regardless if you have a personal experience with it, everyone has been impacted by Covid in one way or another. Since the world has known about Covid, many states have made strides in trying to combat it, some more successful than others. Vaccination is readily available to everybody, but it still is a personal choice to get vaccinated or not. As we try to get back to normal and return to workplaces, a question comes to mind, can companies mandate vaccination?
Can companies mandate vaccination for their staff?
According to the EEOC, employers can require employees to get vaccinated, and some even go as far as offering incentives to boost employee vaccination rates. Keep in mind that there are several caveats to this. The most important exception is if the employee is exempt from mandatory immunization established by the American Disabilities Act. If this is the case, the employer should provide reasonable accommodation to the exempt employee.
If employees cannot get vaccinated because of a medical exemption, the employer should develop different alternatives to the workplace like remote work from home or other alternative arrangements.
Resources and guidance
In California, the state requires all state workers to show proof of vaccination or get tested weekly to prevent the spread of the virus. Furthermore, the state also requires all health care workers to be fully vaccinated by September 30, 2021. All school staff should also be fully vaccinated or expected to test weekly.
The State of New York takes this a little further and requires all health care workers to be fully vaccinated by Labor Day, leaving them with no other alternatives. The same rule applies to all state workers, but they are given an option to get tested weekly.
The different requirements vary by state, so you would have to check your state’s public health mandate or guidelines for more information. So far, Florida and Texas are two states that have no requirements for mandating vaccines for state employees or healthcare workers.
Other ways business owners can prevent the spread
Companies can mandate vaccination but keep in mind that you can still get Covid-19 even if you are fully vaccinated. Studies show that fully vaccinated people are less likely to get hospitalized and show severe symptoms than people who are not vaccinated.
Knowing this, employers should still implement precautions to ensure their employees are safe. Testing is one way that you can prevent the spread of the virus. There are onsite testing options that offer rapid results in as fast as 15 minutes.
The benefits of onsite testing at your workplace
Having onsite testing at your workplace will give your employees peace of mind before returning to offices. They can also rest assured that the rest of the workforce is being tested, which will help prevent an outbreak in your office. Rapid testing can be done, and you can have results within the hour in most cases. It is a safe and accurate way to keep your employees safe and keep your business running despite the challenges that Covid imposes.
How onsite testing works
Onsite testing is administered by healthcare professionals who are trained in doing rapid testing. They can do as many as hundreds of tests a day and get results in as little as 15 minutes. Rapid testing is the new norm now, especially when employees report back into the workplace. If your business or industry places you in contact with many people, onsite testing can help stop the spread of covid-19.
