Ozempic (semaglutide) is a well known medication for weight loss that can help you lose pounds and maintain a healthy waistline.
Ozempic® is a brand-name version of the generic medication semaglutide. It belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists. These drugs are FDA-approved for managing certain symptoms and risks associated with type 2 diabetes.
Ozempic helps you lose weight by controlling your blood sugar and curbing your appetite. It activates natural hormones to stimulate insulin and reduce sugar levels, making it an effective option for weight management.

In a 68-week medical study of 1,961 adults living with obesity or excess weight, and who also had a related medical problem, lost an average of 15% of their body weight while taking semaglutide. In a different study, tirzepatide helped patients lose 15 – 20% of their overall weight, depending on the dosage used.

Side effects for GLP-1s may include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, upset stomach, dizziness, constipation, feeling bloated, belching, gas, headaches and fatigue. If you do experience side effects, they usually subside after a few weeks of your body getting used to the medication. Each patient will receive prescription medication to help combat the side effects should they arise along with directions on dosage to help keep side effects to a minimum. In the most recent clinical trials, less than 5% of people discontinued GLP-1 medications because of side effects.
